5th & 6th Grade Intramural Sports

Students wishing to participate in intramural sports MUST HAVE A CURRENT SPORTS PHYSICAL ON FILE WITH THE SCHOOL NURSE. If your child has had a sport physical and wants to participate in intramural sports at school, make sure the doctor has checked and signed the sports section on their physical. Students will not be allowed to attend, join, or participate in any intramural sport without the current physical on file. The first intramural sport is softball and will begin by the middle of September.

The intramural program is in-house. There are no practice games or tournaments with other schools in the district with the exception of Track in May. For track intramurals students will have a track meet at a local high school. They will be bused to the high school at the end of the school day, but will need to be picked up from that location after the meet. They will not be bused back to Thompson school after the track meet. Parents and family members are welcome and encouraged to attend the track meet in May.

All other intramural sports will be held at Thompson school. Your child will participate in Thompson’s gymnasium from 3-5PM. These sessions are only for participating students. Non-participating students will not be allowed to attend. Each intramural sport (excluding track) runs for eight days from 3-5PM. Students must be picked up by 5:00PM in front of the school.

Students can bring a change of clothes, gym shoes, water bottles, and healthy snacks to intramural sport sessions. For sports held outdoors like softball and track, students can bring sunglasses, sunscreen, and hats to shield themselves from the sun. Students are not allowed to bring their own sports equipment (like bats or gloves) to intramural sports.

A permission slip with specific information and practice schedule is sent home for each sport prior to the sport being offered. The cost of each sport is $25.00. Purchasing a Thompson Intramural Team t-shirt is offered and optional. The cost of the t-shirt is $7.50. The shirt is offered in a variety of neon colors. The intramural sport sessions offered to 5th & 6th grade students include coed softball, coed fall dodgeball/scatter ball, boys' basketball, girls' basketball, coed volleyball, coed spring dodgeball/mat-ball, and coed track.
