Dear Parent and/or Guardian:
Trimester two began on Monday, which means students will be experiencing new exploratory classes and starting off fresh with grades for the term. We can not stress enough how important it is to be to school on time and be in attendance. Our teacher action team will be posting our tardy rates in our school cafeteria so students can see the impact of these tardies. If one student is two minutes late to school each day, they are missing 6 hours of school throughout the year. It adds up and interferes with their learning. Please make sure your student is coming to school on time!
On Friday, we will be releasing our first-trimester grades via Powerschool. Your awareness of your child’s progress is vital to their success and will assist them in reaching their Wildly Important Goals.
Next week, we are holding our Parent Teacher Conferences. Have you signed up for a conference yet? Here is the information for conferences: Conference Information/Signup Links. We are looking forward to these conferences and hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Student Action Teams - Leader in Me
Palombi started our Student Action Teams on November 2nd. What are action teams? Action teams are created by suggestions from our student body and our staff. Here is a menu of our action teams: Action Team Menu
These action teams began with creating a Mission Statement and brainstorming ideas for future action. This Wednesday is our next Action Team. Please be aware that on these dates our schedule follows a Friday schedule, which means lunches are at a different time.
National Junior Honor Society Toy Drive
Please join NJHS in brightening the holiday season for folks in our own community by making a donation to the Lake Villa Township Toy Drive. Donations will be accepted through December 9. Anyone may make a donation online through the Palombi Middle School website. Thank you for your generosity. Toy Drive Donation Link
NJHS
Applications for Palombi’s National Junior Honor Society will be sent to all eligible 7th and 8th graders via their school Gmails on November 22nd. Students must have a cumulative middle school GPA of 3.8 to be invited to join. Please note that not all applicants will be invited to join. Application responses and teacher ratings will be taken into consideration when determining which students will be asked to join.
About NJHS - The purpose of the Lancer Chapter of the National Junior Honor Society at Palombi is to create enthusiasm for scholarship, to stimulate a desire to render service, to promote leadership, to develop character, and to encourage citizenship. This student-led organization is run by elected officers and overseen by faculty advisors. Meetings are typically held twice a month on Fridays from 1:00-3:00 PM. Members are required to complete community service hours, maintain excellent grades, and be a positive role model at Palombi.
Volleyball Tryouts
Volleyball tryouts will be held January 9th and 10th for 6th-8th grade girls and January 11th and 12th for 6th-8th grade boys. Students MUST have a physical on file and have signed up for tryouts in order to participate. Tryout signup will be available Monday, November 21st.

Leader in Me Word of the Month: Proactive
This month the staff has been specifically modeling the use of the word proactive in the classrooms, specifically with charging Chromebooks. A student not having a charged Chromebook causes a disruption in learning for the student. Staff are encouraging students to use proactive language versus reactive language.
Example of proactive language: I can make a plan to charge my Chromebook.
Example of reactive language: I forgot to charge my Chromebook.
Pages 4 and 5 in the Leader and Me Parent Handbook have some great information for parents encouraging teenagers to be proactive.
Health Office
Friendly reminder to follow up and/or turn in any pending documentation for your student’s healthcare compliance! Documents can be faxed, emailed, or sent in with your student. If your student has a fever or is vomiting, they are required to stay home for 24 hours, free of fever/vomiting (without medication) before returning to school.
Attendance
As we get into the colder season, we receive more calls on the attendance line. Please give the office staff time to listen to calls in the morning to update your child’s absence. Reminder, that you need to call each day your student is absent for sickness.
