Dear Lancer Parent/Guardian,
Thank you for your attendance at Curiosity Day and Curriculum Nights! If you missed the evening, I did share a video with each parent during the lunch/advisory time. Please watch the video here: Curriculum Night Video Link
It has been a busy two weeks at Palombi. We practiced our ALICE drills in each period of the day last week. Teachers practiced locking down, discussing with students how to barricade rooms, how to prepare if someone were to access the room, and when it would be safe to evacuate the building. Both the police department and fire department reviewed our ALICE drills and fire drills as well.
Students began MAP testing in their ELA/Math classes last week and we will be conducting MAP makeups next week. These assessments provide us with a baseline for creating our Wildly Important Goals for the year. Both our staff and students will be utilizing these goals to improve our performance. Finally, we will be giving a two-question survey to students next week on how they feel connected to their peers and staff. Details on that survey are below.
Sincerely,
Dr. Vic Wight
Principal
Tardies/Attendance
In the beginning of each year, we give students a lot of grace to get to and from classes. Starting tomorrow, any parent who has a student marked as a tardy to class (including absences) will receive a message relaying when a student is tardy for morning and/or afternoon classes. Our teachers are keenly aware that some students have a longer walk and will provide some grace for those students. However, if you see a discrepancy, please contact the teacher of that tardy period. Our aim is to have kids in seats and learning as quickly as possible.
Two Question Survey
School connectedness is the belief held by students that adults and peers in school care about their learning as well as about them as individuals. School connectedness is an important protective factor for many students. It influences regular school attendance, which is key to improved education and health outcomes. Connectedness also reduces risk-taking behavior and violent and antisocial behavior, as well as the likelihood of emotional problems.
In Lake Villa School District #41, students will complete a school connectedness survey three times per year (Fall, Winter, and Spring). For the 2022-2023 school year, all 2nd-8th grade students will complete the two-question survey on the weeks of:
9/12-9/16, 1/9-1-13, 5/1-5/5
- Do you have a teacher or a staff member at Palombi School that you feel you can openly talk to?
- Do you have one classmate/peer at Palombi School that you feel you have a connection with?
