Dear Palombi families,
In the State of Illinois, all 3rd-8th grade students are required to take the Illinois Assessment of Readiness in the areas of English Language Arts (ELA) and Math. In addition, Eighth-grade students take the Illinois Science Assessment (ISA). The IAR measures student learning related to the Illinois Learning Standards, and helps us understand how our students are growing academically compared to their peers across the state. The ISA is aligned to the Illinois Learning Standards for Science incorporating the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS).
The results of the IAR testing are not only important for your child's academic development but also for our school as a whole. These assessments help us identify areas where our curriculum may need adjustment or enhancement, allowing us to continually improve the quality of education we provide to all students. At Palombi Middle School, all students will take the IAR ELA assessment the week of March 11th, and the IAR Math assessment the week of March 18th. Eighth-grade students will take the additional Science assessment the week of April 1st. Any make-up tests will take place on an ongoing basis during this assessment window.
We understand that standardized testing can sometimes be stressful for students, but we want to reassure you that we are here to support your child every step of the way. Our teachers and staff are dedicated to creating a positive testing environment that encourages your child to do their best.
In order for your child to be prepared for the week of testing, please talk to them about the following:
Wired headphones (Wireless headphones aren’t allowed on the test)
Charged Chromebook
A good night’s sleep and a nice breakfast
Something to read when the testing is complete
Thank you for your continued support and partnership in your child's education. Together, we can help them reach their full potential and achieve academic success. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to me directly at angela.sisi@district41.org or (847)356-2118-x51006.
Thank you,
Angela Sisi
