Early Learning Programs

Preschool Screenings

District 41 offers preschool screenings to all children within D41 boundaries including those families interested in our preschool program. The screening is not a full and detailed evaluation of your child but a tool that provides a worthwhile diagnostic assessment of your child's development in the areas of motor, language, concepts, and social-emotional development.

The District 41 preschool screenings are for children between the ages of 3 and 5 years old. The screening provides the Early Learning team with valuable information to determine if a child’s skills are developing within the typical range or if further assessment is warranted.

Here’s a list of upcoming screenings:

- April 28, 2025

- May 19, 2025

- June 9-12, 2025

If you are interested in a preschool screening, please contact Holly Walker at holly.walker@district41.org or by phone at (847) 356-2385, extension 15024, for an appointment.

Families will be required to register including providing proof of income, proof of residency, and original birth certificate. All documents must be brought to the District Office before the screening.

Screenings will be held at Thompson Elementary School located at 515 Thompson Lane, Lake Villa

Preschool for All

What is Preschool for All?

Preschool for All (PFA) is a program funded through a state grant. There is no tuition or registration fees for this program due to its state funding. The PFA program gives children access to high-quality early learning experiences. It’s designed for children ages 3 to 5, helping prepare them for kindergarten and beyond by developing important skills in areas like language, math, and social-emotional growth.

Why is Preschool for All important?

In PFA classrooms, certified teachers use fun, engaging activities to spark curiosity and learning. The goal is to ensure that all children, regardless of their background, can build a strong foundation for future success in school. These programs help kids develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and the ability to work well with others—skills that are essential in school and life.

Who can join?

Preschool for All is open to children who are 3 to 5 years old. Families in our district are encouraged to sign up for a preschool screening, as the program focuses on serving those who may benefit the most, including children from low-income households, English language learners, and children with special needs.

What can you expect?

Children in Preschool for All classrooms participate in a variety of activities that promote learning through play, exploration, and hands-on experiences. They also benefit from small class sizes and individualized attention, ensuring that their unique needs are met. The program aligns with the Illinois Early Learning and Development Standards and is designed to prepare students for a smooth transition into kindergarten.
